The Future of Scholarly Communication: Integrating ChatGPT into Research Writing Practices

Abstract
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly large language models like ChatGPT, into healthcare and research processes has garnered significant interest. This review synthesizes findings from various studies examining the efficacy, benefits, and limitations of ChatGPT across multiple domains, including literature searches, data extraction, and academic writing. While ChatGPT demonstrates high sensitivity and efficiency in tasks such as abstract screening and data extraction from clinical notes, challenges remain regarding accuracy, ethical considerations, and the risk of misinformation. Many studies emphasize the necessity for human oversight to mitigate issues such as biases and hallucinations. Additionally, the potential for ChatGPT to enhance research workflows and improve scientific communication is underscored, though concerns regarding authorship and ethical usage persist. Overall, the findings highlight ChatGPT’s transformative potential in healthcare and research while advocating for cautious integration and further validation of its capabilities.
